What is the best way to go about milking a bird? Such as a robin or a cardinal? I heard bird milk goes well with brownies. I’m trying to see for myself. Advice would be helpful. (Also, lets just assume I already have the bird and I dont need help catching it)

  1. The funny thing is that some birds actually produce what is often called "milk". The mammary glands we along with all other mammals have came about from modified sweat glands. With birds the "milk" is produced in the crop where fluid-filled cells slough off and are regurgitated for the young chick. Three types of bird that produce "milk":

    Flamingos: produced by the upper digestive tract
    Pigeons: produced in the crop
    Penguins: produced in the esophogus

    So hypothetically it would be more a matter of finding one of these birds that is raising some chicks, either the male or the female as they both produce "milk"(with penguins it is usually the male), and somehow get them to regurgitate it for you. I can’t immagine this tasting very good but it will be very nutritious.

  5. Whoever told you bird milk is good with brownies is playing with you and trying to pull a fast one with you. In order to be able to produce milk (lactate), you have to be a mammal. Birds are not mammals, but are part of the Aves class. Maybe this person wanted to see or hear of you trying to milk a bird for a good laugh.
    By the way, regular cow’s milk tastes good with brownies!

  6. If you believe that, then I have a bird for you…. The Phoenix Has the best Milk. If you can catch a Phoenix you will have the best Milk of all…… And if you believe that then you are a complete idiot. The Phoenix is a fictional bird just like Milking a Bird is Fictional…

    Whoever told you that? Doesn’t know the first thing about birds… As the others have said Birds DON’T GIVE MILK…..

  8. Maybe when she is sleeping would be the best. You have to pluck her feathers to be able to see her nipples. Then take a small pair of tweezers or something small enough and gently squeeze the milk out of her. But in order to make brownies out of it you might need more than one bird, because a small bird will only produce 2 table spoons of milk at one time. It will go great with the cheese you farm! Good luck with that, let us know how they taste.

  10. I tried bird’s milk with cookies once – I didn’t like it all that much. Maybe with brownies it’s better. I’ll have to try it again. Now where’s that stupid ostrich at?

  11. I have to guess that "milking a bird" must be a phrase that cannot be taken literally as stated. Birds do not have milk; do not have mammory glands such as mammals do.

    There is a substance that adult birds will give their newly hatched chicks which is sometimes called birds’ milk, and it is high in nutrition and aids in their growth. However, it is not real milk; it is just a term used to describe its importance. It is derived from partially digested food they’ve eaten.

    I don’t know where you would have heard that it "goes well with brownies." Unfortunately, I think someone is pulling your leg. The small amount of substance that the birds give their chicks is not something you will want to ingest.
