I adopted a cat on Sunday, a one year old female calico, and this will be my first cat. What is the best part about owning a cat?

  1. Congratulations to you and your new calico!

There’s never a dull moment, that’s for sure. Every time I think I have mine figured out, they find some new way to mystify me. They’re very loving and are much more committed, perceptive and loyal than most people give them credit for. They don’t just give trust randomly… it has to be earned, which makes for a truly special bond when they do. All that, plus they’re pretty low maintenance pets, comparatively speaking.

  4. The companionship and undemanding love you get from them. They don’t care what you look like, do for a living, who you vote for, color of skin, etc. Just be kind to them and they love you no matter what.

  5. Definately the companionship…yeah they can be crabby sometimes but that makes it more fun. It’s great just watching them…almost better than tv

  7. Learning their personalities and quirks. One of my cats is funny, she loves attention but only after she gives you "permission" to pet her – she doesn’t want you to touch her until she’s rubbed on your legs. If you try to, she will pretty much limbo under your hand. After you’ve gotten "permission" she leans into the pets. My other cat likes bright yellow things; hair, bags, toys, you name it. If it’s bright yellow, she’s interested.

  8. I have two cats, and I like it that they have such different personalities. One is really playful and affectionate (almost like a puppy dog, it’s weird), and the other one is grouchy and has a lot of attitude. It’s hilarious watching them interact. But, I just like playing with them, watching their goofy behaviors, and just having them around. Other than feeding them and changing their water and litter box, they pretty much take care of themselves. I even like watching sports with them. I am convinced that one of them is a Yankees fan and the other is a Red Sox fan (she’s from Gloucester, MA).

  9. Congratulations on your new adoption, first. :)

I work at a cat shelter and there are 315+ cats there, I also own two babies of my own. I actually read a magazine article once where it did a study and people who owned cats seemed to live longer and have a happier life. They have this quirky attitude that makes you absolutely fall in love. But, please get her spayed if she isn’t already because some cats like to dart ouf doors. Cats are wonderful and entertained by the smallest things. Mine actually love old toilet paper tissue rolls. There are so many great qualities, too many to list! :) Congrats again!

  10. Congrats!! You’re going to love having a cat!!

Ohhhh, there are so many good things about having a cat. First of all, you get to cuddle with them. Second of all, they are so cute. Third of all, they come up to you and rub up against you. But, most of all is the satisfaction of knowing you helped raise the cat, and the joy that it will bring you.

  12. Soon after getttign a cat, they bond with you. It’s odd, because you assuem it’s just a pet but you’ll learn they have very distinctive personalities.

  13. I like when my cat talks to me. She’ll get this stupid look on her face and cock her head a little to the side and just Meows till there is no tomorrow. I’ve grown up with cats and the older they get the funnier they are. Congrats on the new kitty in your home! Always have catnip and you’ll always be laughing!

  14. They keep you company without fawning all over you like a dog. They warm up your bed for you. They sit with you, they don’t let you mope and feel sorry for yourself too long. They are funny and have minds of their own. They are smarter than dogs, and more independent. You don’t have to walk them, BUT you have to change kitty litter.
