I am the third owner of my parrot. She is green with a yellow patch on her head. I think she is amazon but I haven’t been able to confirm. She has red and blue on her wings. I have seen pictures that look like her but How do I determine her exact species? I want to know her approximate life span etc. She is 15 yrs per the previous owner.

  1. Your bird is a Yellow Naped Amazon. They have been documented to live over 100 years. They originate from South America, and therefore require a low protein diet consisting of lots of fruits and nuts.

    Amazons are tempermental, and can quickly change moods and can be agressive. But they are very intellegent and are good talkers.

  5. I suggest that you join an amazon parrot group at yahoo groups. You will not only learn what species your bird is but much about her behavior, nutritional needs are and any other questions you may have.
    From what you say, your amazon could either be a yellow naped; double yellow head or one of the yellow fronted species. Amazons live about as long as humans do. Good nutrition is the key to longevity.
