I was wondering, cause I heard that too many dog treats are really bad for dogs. I know that their dog food holds the nutrients that they need and bones have calcium they need. But what about dog treats and dog biscuits. Thanks.

  4. If your dog eats too many dog treats, your dog can become obese and have doggy diabetes and/or other serious health problems. Treats should always be given in moderation.

  6. They get upset tummys and bad digestin…Dogs should only have a small treat sometimes. and that is what it is "a treat"
You should stick to dry dog food. and a good brand, not a store name brand.

  7. Don’t over feed your dog!! Especially with treats. Treats are like cookies to humans, if you give people too much they get sick. Be sure you stick to dog food for dogs. Don’t always give them human food either because dogs can get bladder stones. My dog had a very large bladder stone in her that was too big for her to pass so she had to get an operation. She is fine now but she is quite overweight and if were not careful she will need to get another operation that costs about $800. So feed your dog, dog food and don’t overfeed them treats or they could suffer from lack of nutrition. Not only that but it makes your dog overweight!!

  8. Dog treats of any sort are just like cookies and candy. They taste good, but they have a lot of fat and sodium and no nutrition. It’s the exact same thing as a young child eating too much junk food- they’ll get fat, and unhealthy. They can have yucky looking hair, or lose hair, they can have bad skin, they get tartar on their teeth, they can have blood sugar problems and diabetes, they can get heart disease, and much more. Most of what a dog eats in a day should be regular dry dog food. Only give one or two small treats per day- and by small I mean a portion the size of the last joint of your pinkie for a small to medium dog, or the size of your thumb for a large dog.

A good idea to try is to use plain boiled chicken breast as a treat instead of commercial dog treats- it’s much healthier for them, and they love it! Just boil a piece of boneless chicken, dice it up small, and keep it in the fridge in a baggie.

  9. If you give too many and don’t adjust the amount of dog food they get they can gain weight. Treats should only make up about 1/5 of your dogs daily diet. If you give more regulate the food to match. Of course feeding good treats is important too. Don’t feed treats with dyes, Chicken by products or any other meat by product (head, feet and intestines). Also stay away from chemical preservatives like BHT.

If you are really concerned you could feed low fat treats as well.

Check out these desserts that are less than 100 calories and all vegetarian. My dogs love them.
