Hi Dee...Common odours that are effective deterrents for cats are:

Citronella works best for cats as well as citrus scents such as orange or lemon (primarily towards cats), cayenne pepper, coffee grounds, pipe tobacco, lavender oil, lemon grass oil, citronella oil, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, and mustard oil.

"Havahart's Cat Repellent" uses capsaicin pepper and oil of mustard as its active ingredients. It repels by both taste and odor, has a lemon scent.

Every animal responds differently to each of these. Some will not be phased by them and others will be quite revolting.

For training purposes they are applied on items that are to encourage avoidance behaviours and not for use with a squirt bottle as they could harm the eyes or respiratory system. Test each substance and observe to see which works as a deterrent so that accidental injestion does not occur as some could then be fatal.

Coleus plants can be effective, but every cat responds differently so it is uncertain without experimenting.

MOTHBALLS are toxic to cats which contains the ingredient Naphthalene. Mothballs are approximately twice as toxic as paradichlorobenzene, and cats are especially sensitive to naphthalene. Signs of ingestion of naphthalene mothballs include emesis, weakness, lethargy, brown-colored mucous membranes and collapses. Paradichlorobenzene mothballs may cause GI upset, ataxia, disorientation, and depression. Elevations in liver serum biochemical values may occur within 72 hours of indigestion.

To neutralize the cat urine odour consider using Nature's Miracle (available worldwide at any pet store). It's an enzymatic neutralizer which lifts the urine odours by thoroughly soaking the affected area to let air dry. Repeated applications may be necessary depending on how heavily soiled the area is.

Here's a photo to help you recognize the product on the store shelves: http://www.petsmart.com/media/ps/images/products/detail/large/June05/lg_50648_47f09.jpg

Use Urine Gone. You can buy it in the pet stores. Put some yummy treat on your porch and call animal control. They can catch the cat while it enjoys the treat.

If it's friendly take it to the Humane Society so it can find a nice home. But if it's not friendly take it to the pound to be put down.

Use water and soap. That is what my sisters neighbors do when their dog goes to the bathroom and my sister complains because it makes her house stink plus she has kids. Well anyways try scrubbing it. And if you try to feed the cat and call animal control to come get the cat it will have somewhere to be and have food and shelter. Better than it living on the streets and marking your front yard.

Call your local animal control, they'll pick up the cat so it can be put up for adoption.

If the area that was marked is cement or some other building material try putting some cat pee spray on it. That usual gets rid of the odors

Animal shelters rent traps. Catch it and take it back to the shelter. There is a small fee, but it might be worth it.
Natures Miracle
Urine Off
Urine Gone
Fabrese
Are all great for removing smells
